I personally don’t want to be rated, but I did want to point out that members can now rate albums, artists, and venues. You will see the star rating right below their picture. Currently the “average” piece isn’t hooked up, but when we get enough ratings it can be turned on and you’ll see how you compare to everyone else’s ratings.

Oh, and if you were still experiencing bad links on some pages it should all be fixed now.

The video this time isn’t actually a song called rate me, instead it’s a drum cover of a 30 Seconds to Mars song (The Kill). The drummer was asking for ratings, so maybe we can give him some too.

There was a period of about 12 hours there were attempting to get to any details page (artist, album, event, or venue) would give you a blank screen. Apparently my host and my development systems had conflicting versions of some files… meaning it worked when I tested it myself, and then not when I put it up for everyone else. That’s my fault, I didn’t test enough when I put the changes up.

Otherwise, everything should be working as intended now.

Well, I’ve spent the last couple weekends doing this… but it’s finally done. If you sign up an account on the site you can now add your own events! And if your event has an artist that we don’t have, well you can add them too. And albums! And venues! I can feel the butterflies!

Yes, it’s about time, you say. And you would be right! I have been slacking, but I also took the time to rip out the guts of the site and rebuild it. That doesn’t mean much to anybody else, but to me that means things are easier to do in the future. New features should be faster to come by down the road.

And if you haven’t guessed yet, I’m on a JEW high tonight.

So, expect some new functionality in the near future.

Also… the android companion app is coming along. If you have an android device you can download the current version of the app. It’s nothing special at the moment, and it doesn’t refresh on it’s own. That means that if you move to a different place, or you expect want it to refresh for today’s events you need to click the refresh button. If anyone has comments or feature requests please leave a comment below.

So, shortly after my last blog posting I lost my full time job. We’re talking not even a week after the last post. Called into a meeting and “Sorry, you are no longer employed with the company.” Well, shit. That pretty much put a stop to any personal development I had been doing, this site being the main portion of that. My new full time job consisted of looking for work, which is exhausting! Oh, and I also had to have my wisdom teeth ripped out during the same time period.

Why do I bother writing this for the world to see? Well, I feel guilty that I haven’t touched this site in a little while. The problem is that life just happens. I did manage to land a job though, and started at the end of January, and it happens to be in the mobile world. This has really piqued my interest in doing a mobile companion application for this site. I’m going to start with Android work, since I own an android phone. Hopefully I can still find time to do the feature editing I’ve been hoping to do as well.

It looks like I haven’t been getting any new events since, well… basically when I started on Christmas vacation. What was the issue, you may ask? Well, last.fm modified their API slightly, and by that I mean very slightly. As in the capitalization on a field name was modified and my whole import system blew up. More precisely, it didn’t blow up… It just thought there were never any events to grab. If it blew up I would have had a notification, this was actually worse: I didn’t know there was an issue at all! I should really be checking my logs more often.

Also… still slacking. No new site updates. Damn new video games are to blame.

I’ve been AWOL for the past couple weeks, but I do have good excuses… I swear! It was my birthday at the beginning of the month, and it’s coming up on Christmas so things have been a little busy. Maybe they’re not the best excuses, but I did get some new games for my PS3 and that did eat in to my website building time… Significantly.

Some of the things I’ve talked about previously should start getting some love in the near future, including adding new events and bands. I don’t want to rely on 3rd party (last.fm) data forever. Musicbrainz on the other hand is a very helpful database which I don’t think I will ever ditch. I have the whole week off work between Christmas and New Years, so there will be time for video games and development!

And as a side note… I was doing some google searching to see how good the site was doing in the rankings (poorly, thanks for asking). While I was doing that I ran across the following article: How to Fake Being and Indie Rock Expert . Really? You need an article to fake being an indie rock expert? I’ll admit I’m not an indie rock expert. I’m just a guy who wanted to find out where local shows were and couldn’t find a good source of information. I’m also a software developer, so what did I do… I built a tool that would get me the information and gave it to the world to use. I’m not even going to pretend to try and be an expert. I’ll leave that to anyone who happens to show up here at the site.

So, uh… How about Velvet Underground and Sonic Youth? He he he.
